Police shooting of youth in Denham Town sparks major riot. It took the intervention of Member of Parliament for Western Kingston Edward Seaga to end a bloody stand-off between residents and members of the security forces Friday. Mr. Seaga assured residents that he would be ensuring that a through investigation is done into the shooting of at least three persons in the area Friday morning. It's reported that the three hour long stand-off started with the shooting of a Grade nine student of the Denham Town High School, allegedly by police personnel on foot patrol in Denham Town. It started shortly before mid-day and when it was done three persons including a soldier were shot.

Two-hour gun battle between security. A SECTION of Western Kingston erupted again yesterday as residents clashed with police and soldiers over the alleged shooting of a student by the security forces, a 14-year-old who has since been hospitalised. Roadblocks and fires were eventually cleared and calm returned to the area in the afternoon, but only after a man had been killed, a soldier shot and hospitalised, and security vehicles attacked and destroyed.
